It All Went Peachy Keen!

I think I have just about recovered from the first Peachy Keen Vintage Fair. It was a long old day, starting at 8am and finishing just before 5, jam packed of lifting and shifting, selling and singing!

I had such a good time doing it, and have even set the date for the next one - Saturday 30th May!

Doors opened at 11am at St Peter's By The Waterfront and the public came streaming in. Over 230 people came through the doors that day, and the vast majority (I think there were two grumbles) had a swell time. Traders were super happy with their day's work, and many have booked in to trade again in May!

Major Life Update.

Hello you lot! Did you miss me? I have been very busy with well...life! Yes, I finally got one!

Since I last spoke to you at the end of January I have upped sticks and moved to Ipswich! That's a bit random, I hear you cry. Well, not when you consider that my boyfriend as well as lots of friends live in the town and surrounding area. Oh, and that little fact that I landed a dreamy job that has put me on the first rung of my career in heritage! Yippee! I am now the Visitor Services Trainee (aka, intern) at the Museum of East Anglian Life; I am training in all the behind the scenes things that go on at museums that make the experience the best it can be for the visitor, and also help plan and run the events. I'll keep you all updated (she says...hopefully...) with goings on in that aspect, especially about the very exciting Blues Festival which I am sure y'all will want to know about!

What else have I done to fill my time? Well I've done lots and lots of modelling, even some paid work! I'm really glad I kick started that again as I love doing it, but now since the move it looks like I'm going to have to get to know a whole new bunch of people! My favourite shoot I did was with Paul Good, and I've put a few photos from that below because I love them so much!

March rolled around and saw me at Bedlam Breakout again. I may have gotten far, far, far too drunk on Friday night - that sort of drunk where you don't remember anything and it's not enjoyable, but you wake up with bruises - but the rest of the weekend (minus the Saturday hangover) was great! Even got the bus back with the guitarist from Frantic Flintstones! Work depending, I hope to be back there this September too.

So that is pretty much it but as you can see, life was a little bit hectic and up in the air for a few months! I've got a few blogs planned for the next month or so as it is Mid Century Market time as well as the start of weekender season - Atomic first, yay!

The 2013 Review.

Seriously...where has this year gone? It completely and utterly flashed before my eyes! I think I spent half of it in the library so that might explain quite a lot. All in all I think I have had a fabulous year; yes I had a hiccup in October but I am out the other side of that and feeling all reflective. I met and left some gorgeous people, I pushed myself as a 'brand' even further, got back into modelling, met a boy, and even started my own small business! Absolute craziness!

I have much to be thankful and proud for from 2013. Mainly the fact that I graduated from university with a 2.1 in Archaeology. It is something I worked incredibly hard for so it is a great achievement that fulfilled the dream of a little girl who quite liked history. I met some amazing people during my three years in Liverpool, both from university and from the city. It was tough at times for a southern girl in the north but I am very now very attached and connected to my adoptive city and all the memories it gave me. As well as the delicious people of Liverpool I met lots of people in the vintage and rockabilly world, all who have been equally fabulous. I really tried to boost my social networks this year and even branched into getting myself a Facebook page and profile for this blog and my other works. I have this to thank for meeting these people, and I hope in 2014 I continue to grow as I did this year.

First up we had the vintage blogger meet up in May. It was a brilliant day spent in London, shopping and getting to know the people behind the pages even better. I think its about time another one of these was planned!

Another amazing person I was introduced to was Bethan, aka Bettina Scarlett. We are now firm friends, sharing chalets at the Rhythm Riot and having lots of dancing fun! She is the one I have to thank for kick starting my modelling again really, as she asked me to be an Atomic Bombshell. This was another big highlight of the year for me; I had an unbelievable amount of fun doing it, met some great folks, and got a nudge back to getting in front of a camera. Hopefully in 2014 I'll have many more photoshoots and get myself noticed that little bit more.

What a year I have had! I can't wait to see what 2014 has in store for me, who I'll get to meet, where I'll get to go, and what I'll get to do! It all is really exciting right now!

A Most Blustery Day.

Some of you may well know that I am trying to reignite my modelling antics. I've done a fair bit in the past and got busy this summer being an Atomic Bombshell. It is something I would really like to do more of in the future, especially now I am back in the south and can get out and about more.

So, last Friday I had a shoot planned with two photographers. Well, actually it was originally just the one but Annette came along too to snap some extras. I have yet to receive Annette's photos (she's a very busy lady!) but here are Ray Haynes' shots.

The shoot took place on Weston Shore, in Netley and on Southampton Common as they provided us with some amazing natural backdrops.

I wore a two outfits consisting of:

• Scarf from Accessorize (I think...)
• Dungarees from Freddies of Pinewood
• Jumper from Topshop
• Boots from Jones'
• Jacket from a kilo sale

Flight AT0M1C Is Now Boarding.

Wow oh wow. Words cannot explain how excited I am for this new festival. Atomic is a brand spanking new weekender for 2014 brought to you by the same team that brings you the Rockabilly Rave, Rhythm Riot and Hotrod Hayride. Held on the first May Bank Holiday at Sywell Aerodrome, Northamptonshire, it will be one of the earliest weekenders in the calender, but that's not a bad thing is it? Everyone likes to party all year round! 

It is bands galore at this event, but who would expect anything else from the team? Highlights include Bobby Brooks Wilson (who I had the privilege of meeting backstage and on stage at the Riot), The Revolutionaires, and Si Crauston. Many more are to be added to the ever growing, ever fabulous list so there will be something for everyone's taste. It's not just music and dancing at the festival to keep you entertained; there will be a drive-in movie (yes, you heard right!), lots of shopping (naturally as there is at these sort of events!), and a fairground! 

So much going on!

So, why am I blabbering on about this? Well, its because I have had the absolute honour of being an Atomic Bombshell not once but twice. I haven't done very much much modelling compared to others, and certainly not in the last three years. But when I was asked to do this I snapped at the chance! It was a great opportunity for my portfolio, as well as promoting what will be such an amazing event! I even got myself featured on their website on the ticket page! Go me!  My outfits included a cheerleader outfit (no pompoms sadly) which was very hot at the Hotrod Hayride, but freezing down in Rye at the Rhythm Riot, and an amazing air hostess outfit which included the most comfortable yet stylish pair of shoes. I was really tempted to hide my pair and sneak them out...naughty!

Peach Melba

Remember how I dyed my hair orange, pink and red a few weeks back? Well it's faded out to this amazing collection of colours! I'm appreciating it whilst it lasts though because with every wash it gets lighter and lighter!

I'm thinking I'm going to keep with this ginger theme and get it professionally dyed to some form of auburn shade for the winter.

Roots need a major revamp though!

Carry On Hayridin'

I cannot believe that it has already been over two weeks since the Hotrod Hayride came and went! Once again the weekend excelled itself and flashed past in a blur of cars, music, rum and friends. I did my documenting of the event a little differently this year and instead of writing up a lengthy blog I decided to film my experience instead, so below you'll find my two-part vlog on all the shenanigans (well most of them, some were too drunken to show you!) and then some photos to accompany it!

Here is me and the other Atomic Bombshells doing a little modelling and flyering for the new vintage festival Atomic! A great time was had by all even if we were sweltering in our jumpers in the British summer heat!

As I said before friends played a big part in this year's Hayride. I met up with three lovely lads called Sam, Rick and Harry who put up with me and my friend Steve all weekend. We were a nice little gang I reckon.

Here we are! (Plus Salvatore and minus Sam who was behind the camera) Evidently we were kinda merry by this point...especially Rick.

Lots of dancing was going on on both nights - sadly I am still no good at jiving :(

I was a little bit fixated with the array of beards that were on show this year but this man, complete with beehive and blue eyeshadow, really stole the show!

So there we have it! We had some modelling, some dancing, some drinking (okay...more than some), lots of friends, and just a general jolly good time!

Only 348 days until the next one!

Spring Forward.

Do I dare? Did I just jinx it? Humblest apologies if I have, but it seems the south has got the springtime bug - it took long enough! I'm home in Southampton for Easter, but it's back off up to Liverpool on Friday for what I can only describe as seven weeks of hell. From 8th April to the 1st June I plan on being in the library most of the time as all my final, final, final deadlines all descend on me at once! I have 20,000 words to research and write so this blog will probably take a bit of a back seat until freedom is in sight.

If I do get a breather I might do a little recap of what's been going on on my Instagram  like I'm doing now...

So when I left Liverpool last Wednesday the photo on the left was what I saw from my window. Snow. Yes, snow. Only Britain couldn't have a White Christmas but a White Easter instead! But then just less than one week later look at those lovely springtime skies! Yes, the trees are still bare, but seeing as that photo was just taken after 6pm, I think at least the feeling of spring is there.

Last Saturday me and the parents went out to a rockabilly night at The Talking Heads in Southampton to catch up with some people and to see some bands play (The Ace Trio were as ace as usual!); this is my outfit for the night, my new Freddies of Pinewood jeans, an old gingham strapless top (which needs the bones taking out because they bend too much and make me look large...) and a bikini because I forgot my strapless bra. Also, check out the bumper bangs! I'm getting much better at them!

I got some lovely new things at Ikea including these tiki-esque glasses amongst other things that I'm keeping under wraps for a while. I have to move house at the end of June and plan on living by myself so I can really let my style develop, hopefully the things I bought today will aid that.

I posted on Instagram way back in January that I was looking for a peachy coral lipstick but my search had been unsuccessful until I found the new Rimmel Apocalips in Luna. It's a perfect colour, but I'm not too keen on the texture - unlike the advert it isn't quite as opaque as a lipstick and you have to have really smooth lips for it it not to show up an chapped skin.

Easter obviously meant the end of my vegetarianism so...McDonalds it was! I know, I know, its horribly processed gunk but I have been craving a Big Mac for weeks!

Finally, I travelled back in style last week. I could really get used to this first class malarky! Free lunch and, more importantly, free wine! Oh yes, very pleasant!

(One last thing, the competition I mentioned in my last post ended on the 1st April. Sadly, I didn't win, but I did come fourth so I must thank all those who voted for me! Congratulations to the winner, and good luck Bettina Scarlett for the event!)

Viva Las Wedding

Warning: This blog will contain lots and lots and lots of photos!

Yesterday the Cruse clan gathered for the wedding of Wes Cruse and Gilly Small. What a lovely day it was! By the title of this post you may sense that this wedding had a sort of theme: Elvis. Well, not really, but there was a touch of the King there. What did you expect from a family of rockabillies and bellas?

The ceremony was short and sweet in a lovely coaching inn in Romsey, Hampshire. The bride wore a 60s style dress with a lace overlay, accompanied by two beautiful bridesmaids, my cousins Ellie and Lottie.

Lots and lots of photos were taken outside - t'was a bit chilly. It was nice to have the whole family together for snaps as it's a rare thing, what with me being an honorary northerner now, and just as nice to see family friends I haven't seen in well over a year.

Mmm the food. My poor student belly wasn't used to such luxury! Duck followed by beef Wellington with sticky toffee pudding to finish - all washed down with lots of red wine. Divine! As usual, the meal was followed by the speeches; it was during this time that my nan found out she was the MILF of Merry Oak Boys School - Donna Summer will never be the same again...

There was lots and lots of dancing (with equally lots and lots of drinking) well into the night, thanks to Mick Mears spinning some old records for us all.

And if you were wondering what I was wearing it was a home made dress (by my mama) from a 1947 pattern, made of modern silk.

All in all a wonderful day to stay in the memory banks for a long time!

Daily Face - Week #4

Welcome to week #4 of my Daily Face project! It was spent at many Christmas parties (hence the nice photos and the one hungover photo)

Day 22 and 23 were spent in the library finishing off my first chapter of the dreaded dissertation (The Influence of Greek Colonisation on the Domestic Architecture of Iron Age Sicily) so are rather unexciting. Day 24, however, that was the day of the fabulous hair, too much gin and absinthe, and meeting a lovely dog. The photo showing my Day 25 reflects the aftermath of Day 24 pretty well I think! Days 26, 27 and 28 is much more glamorous! I braved the Sunday Shoppers on Day 26, went bowling on Day 27 for my friend Gillian's birthday (my team, captained under Will, won!), and then Day 28 was taken just before I went to TAG's (an archaeology conference that was being held at my university) Christmas party - drinking with lecturers and pretty important people in the archaeological world was so much fun - and then on to Aloha's Mele Kalikimaka party!

I'm at home for Christmas now, and Week #5 is well under way so come back late next week (after the festivities) to see how it pans out!
